Airport launches new shopping area

Newcastle Airport is piloting a new shopping scheme following the refurbishment of commercial space on the site.
The Biza shop sells alcohol, tobacco and other luxury goods cheaper than on the high street, but in a more glamorous setting than traditional duty free shops, the Journal reports.
Costing £4 million and taking 12 months to refurbish, the new 10,000 square foot retail area of the airport replaced the old Alpha Airport Shopping Store.
Reg Curtis, managing director of the shop's parent company Alpha Retail UK, told the newspaper the airport has "premium customers" coming through its doors.
"People will spend on luxury products before going on holiday. They want to spend money as part of their holiday. We want to get hold of that mindset and tempt and excite shoppers," Mr Curtis commented.
The retail opportunities are "different here than on the high street", he added.
Newcastle Airport announced this week it would be acquiring Samson Aviation Services for £450,000.
The move is aimed at helping the airport achieve its aims of developing the south side of the site to include a new luxury business park.
